Enter, keto burgers! I LOVE a good burger, and at first, I was worried about not being able to get the same effect without a bun, but boy was I wrong. My lettuce bun burger hack will blow your mind!

The best part is that all of the ingredients you need to make a ketogenic burger are at your standard BBQ, so making your plate is super easy. There are also tons of fun ways to deconstruct a burger for bowls, casseroles, etc!

Must-Have Keto Burger Ingredients

The great thing about keto burgers is that (minus the bun!) all the favorite toppings are pretty keto-friendly. Lean ground beef patties, cheese, crispy bacon, romaine lettuce, tomato, pickles, sliced onion, grilled onions, caramelized onions- all low-carb and keto! There’s even a ton of keto bun brands now, making the options truly endless.

When it comes to seasoning, the best burgers (in my opinion) are simple, enhancing the umami flavor of the beef. Black pepper, onion powder, garlic powder, and sea salt are all you need, and they’re all keto-friendly!

The tricky part is when you get to the condiments. Mustard is keto-friendly, but ketchup and some mayonnaise or burger sauces can be higher in carbs. Tips for Making the Perfect Keto Burger

  1. Grab your meat thermometer to check the internal temperature depending on how well you like your burger cooked. Rare: 120-125 degrees F, Medium-Rare: 130-135, Medium: 140-145, Medium-Well: 150-155, and Well: 160-165.
  2. The best way to season your meat is the “less is more” concept. Use salt and pepper, and maybe some garlic powder or onion powder, but don’t overseason.
  3. Don’t over-mix your meat! Combine ground beef in a large mixing bowl to combine the spices, but don’t overmix your meat. This could result in a tougher burger.
  4. Store leftover homemade burgers an airtight container and eat within 4 days. Store your toppings separately so they don’t get soggy.
