Gilgo Beach cops searched suspect Rex Heuermann's basem*nt (2024)

The basem*nt of Gilgo Beach serial killer suspect Rex Heuermann's Long Island home was the area investigators zoned in on during their six-day raid.

Heuermann is currently in jail after being charged with the murders of four sex workers - Melissa Barthelemy, Megan Waterman, Amber Costello, and Maureen Brainard-Barnes, also known as 'The Gilgo Four.'

Attorney Robert Macedonio told DailyMail.com: 'It appears the primary focus was in the basem*nt, and any evidence they were looking to retrieve was there.'

The rest of the house seemed intact, compared to last summer when investigators swooped in during the initial raid leaving the home in shambles.

'Itappeared everything was put back. I think this time they took great detail not to create the firestorm that was created last time. It is wholeheartedly appreciated by me and the family,' Macedonio said.

'Victoria's room, Asa's room, and Christopher’s room did not look like they were disturbed at all,' he said. 'The beds were still made. The kitchen was fine, and living room, the bathroom.

'No plumbing taken out like last time - so the house is still habitable.'

Asa Ellerup, 59, and her son, Christopher Sheridan, 34, have been down in South Carolina.

Ellerup's daughter, Victoria Heuermann, 27, was the only family member home when investigators came to the Massapequa Park home last Monday to execute the search.

Victoria was very cooperative, and left the property.

On Wednesday, she surfaced to pick up her car that was parked down the block, and escorted by Macedonio. She drove off though it was unclear where she was heading.

On Sunday morning, less than 24 hours after the search ended, Macedonio met Victoria, and brought her into the house after they were given the greenlight to return.

'We had no idea what we were walking into. I think it is a little comforting knowing it is not the same as last year,' he told DailyMail.com.

'I didn’t want them to be emotionally traumatized again.Last year, when we were back in the house it was widely reported the condition it was in.'

'The beds were still made- the bathroom,, the living room. There were reports in the news that they took - the television, the TV is still sitting right on the stand,' he said.

'The fish are still in the bowl. The fish were there for a week. The fish are alive - someone must have fed them during the week. Like I said, there was greater detail taken this time not to have that same image.

He said the house is now secure and thefamily will be able to move back in.

When asked if he, and the family were surprised that their home was being search again after 10 months, he said, 'yes.'

He said: 'They are collateral damage - Asa, Victoria, Christopher, for whatever Rex is accused of.'

'I don’t know what developed. Again, I have the utmost confidence in the prosecution teams that they legally had probable cause and they went in to do a search warrant. They aren’t going to take chances on a case of this magnitude.

He further stated, 'but again, we don’t know what that probable cause is yet.

'We haven’t received that it may be under seal or it may be under protective order at some point in time I am sure we will see it but we haven’t received a copy of the affidavit to determine probable cause yet,' he said.

The search was executed by Suffolk County Police Department with assistance from the New York State Troopers.

It was unclear what prompted the new raid 10 months afterHeuermann was arrested.

Heuermann's attorney Michael Brown told DailyMail.com on Monday he was unable to comment on any questions relating to the case.

His next court date is June 18.
