Starting Jan. 18, 2024, patients can view both new and past radiology images in MyChart. Go to the menu in MyChart and select Test Results. You can view the image by clicking the “Linked information & Images” button.

Two-Step Verification

You may have noticed that there is now a security step called two-step verification when logging into the MyChart portal. This will help protect your MyChart account. After logging in, you can turn off this added security feature by navigating toSecurity Settings and clicking “Turn off two-step verification.”

Starting July 18, Some MyChart Messages May Be Billed

Johns Hopkins Medicine will begin billing for some nonurgent MyChart messages. While you will not be charged for most messages, some require more time for review and response from your care team, such as assessing a new condition or adjusting medications.

MyChart for Teens

Teens ages 13–17 can take charge of their care by creating their own MyChart accounts. A MyChart account lets you send messages to your health care provider, request and renew prescriptions, see test results, schedule appointments and so much more. Parents and guardians can request proxy access to a teen account, but some information will remain confidential and will not be shared without the teen’s permission.

Have a Video Visit

Depending on state regulations, patients can participate in a live-video appointment with a Johns Hopkins Medicine provider. Video visits are secure and HIPAA compliant. Professional language and sign language interpreters can join video visits.

Schedule Appointments

Use MyChart to schedule some care appointments.

  1. Select Visits from the top menu.
  2. Click the green Schedule an appointment button.
  3. Under Tell us why you’re coming in, click on Adult/Pediatric Specialty Care.
  4. Answer the questions and follow the prompts.
  5. Select an available date and time.
  6. Click Submit to secure your appointment.

Check in for Appointments Ahead of Your Arrival

Check in to your appointment before you arrive.

  1. Select Visits from the top menu.
  2. Click eCheck-in.
  3. Confirm your insurance, medical history and preferred pharmacy.

Use MyChart to tell your provider when you have arrived for some appointments.

  1. A box titled Confirm that you’ve arrived will appear 30 minutes before an appointment.
  2. Click I’m here and proceed to the front desk to sign any outstanding paperwork.

Request and Download Health Records

Patients and proxies can request and download health records in MyChart.

  1. Open the menu and search/selectSharing Hub.
  2. ChooseYourself.
  3. ChooseRequest a copy.
  4. Fill out theRequest Copy of Health Recordform for whichever site records you wish to download.
  5. Once the request is processed, you will receive a notification that the file is ready in the Document Center. Depending on the size and type of request, this could take several business days.

Access your test results and provider’s clinic notes as soon as they are finalized.

  1. Click on Menu and locate My Record.
  2. Select Test Results.
  3. Select Visits. Click View Notes under a specific visit.

  1. Click Messages from the top navigation bar.
  2. Click the green Send a message button.
  3. Select the reason for your message.

Send Your Provider a Message Through MyChart

You can send non-emergency medical questions to your providers through MyChart. Please note, your message may not be read for 3 business days

When should I call 911 or go to the emergency department?

Call 911 if you are experiencing potentially life-threatening symptoms. The following are just some of the symptoms for which you should immediately call 911 or go to the nearest emergency department. (Note: This is not a complete list.)

  • Chest pain or pressure, palpitations, shortness of breath or other symptoms of heart attack or other heart problems
  • Sudden numbness, weakness, confusion, loss of vision, problems with speech or balance, or other symptoms of stroke
  • Unexplained or worsening shortness of breath, or other breathing problems
  • High fever
  • Intense or unexplained pain
  • Heavy bleeding or bleeding without an obvious cause
  • Severe injury or trauma, including deep, large or severe cuts
  • Possible fractures or broken bones
  • Any other problems that you consider an emergency

Step One: Request Records

Patients and proxies can request and download health records in MyChart at no cost.

  1. Open the menu and search/select Sharing Hub.
  2. Choose Yourself.
  3. Choose Request a copy.
  4. Fill out the Request Copy of Health Record form for whichever site records you wish to download.
  5. Once the request is processed, you will receive a notification that the file is ready in the Document Center. Depending on the size and type of request, this could take several business days.

Step Two: Download Records

Once you receive the notification that your file is ready in the Document Center:

  1. Open the menu and search/select Document Center.
  2. Choose the Record Request option.
  3. Click Download on the recently requested record.
  4. Some documents may have a lock icon. If you hover over the lock, you will see a password displayed. When you open the file on your computer, you will need to enter that password to see the report.

If you don’t have enough space on your computer for the download, you can request your record from the Health Information Management (HIM) Department instead. Instructions for that process can be found here.

Why is MyChart not showing test results? ›

There are some results that are exceptions and your provider will contact you outside of MyChart with those results. The test results page defaults to show only test results done at clinic locations. You may need to click on Show hospital results to see all test results.

Do doctors read MyChart messages? ›

Understanding MyChart messaging

Multiple members of your care team may view MyChart messages in order to get an appropriate and efficient response; this may include nurses or advance practice clinicians other than your primary care provider (PCP).

How much does MyChart cost at Johns Hopkins? ›

Most MyChart messages are free. Clinicians may only bill for messages that require at least five minutes of time spent reviewing the medical record and providing medical advice.
