Mango Smoothies (2024)

A smoothie is good idea any time of day, whether it’s a refreshing morning drink or a sweet healthy snack. While plenty of fruits work well in smoothie recipes, mangoes are a great choice because of their smooth texture and tropical flavor. Making a mango smoothie is as simple as grabbing your blender and combining a few ingredients.

Mango Smoothie Ingredients

Mango Smoothies (1)TMB Studio

  • Unsweetened pineapple juice
  • Reduced-fat plain yogurt
  • Honey
  • Frozen mangoes
  • Banana

Directions

Step 1: Blend the liquid ingredients

In a blender, combine the juice, yogurt and honey. Cover and blend until smooth. Not only is adding liquids first easier on your blender, but it will also produce a better texture.

Step 2: Add the fruit

Add the frozen mango and banana (frozen fruit allows you to skip the ice and avoid a watered-down flavor). Cover and blend until smooth. Start slow, if you start blending on the highest level, an air bubble could form, preventing your ingredients from blending.

Editor’s Tip: If the blades get stuck on a chunk of frozen mango, hit the pulse button to help free it.

Step 3: Enjoy!

Pour into two chilled glasses; serve immediately.

Mango Smoothie Variations

  • Switch up the juice: Instead of the pineapple juice, use orange juice or mango nectar. Or, freeze the pineapple juice into cubes before blending, then top with fresh fruit and sliced almonds for a spoonable (vs. slurpable) smoothie bowl.
  • Change the sweetener: The honey in this mango smoothie recipe can be swapped with maple syrup.
  • Add other healthy ingredients: To play around with the nutrition profile, add ground flaxseed, chia seeds or protein powder. Here are more ways to add protein to smoothies.

Mango Smoothie Tips

Do you use fresh or frozen fruit in a smoothie recipe?

You can use fresh mango instead of frozen in this mango smoothie recipe, but you’ll get a much thinner smoothie because of the added water content. It will be more like a juice. If you’re using fresh fruit but want a thicker smoothie, include frozen banana, and possibly a few ice cubes. For the thickest option, use frozen mango and frozen banana.

What fruit blends well with mango?

Mangoes are a team player—they go with almost anything! Since they intensify the flavor of other tropical fruits, try combining mangoes with coconut, papaya or pineapple. Melons, berries, peaches or bananas would also be delicious with mango.

Can you make a dairy-free mango smoothie?

Instead of regular yogurt, try using your favorite vegan yogurt. We recommend coconut yogurt for this mango smoothie recipe, since mango goes well with coconut. Otherwise, experiment with your favorite dairy-free alternative like almond or oat milks.

Can you make mango smoothies ahead of time?

Yes! After adding the liquids, just dump pre-portioned frozen ingredients from the freezer into the blender and enjoy your make-ahead smoothie.
