Pineapple Mango Sangria - unique and refreshing sangria recipe (1)

I’m super excited to bring you today’s recipe. It’s a Pineapple Mango Sangria. Last week when I was in Chicago I was served one of these as part of a fabulous dinner. While I didn’t have the exact recipe, I got creative and made a pretty close, if not better, replica at home.

This is such a fun take on traditional sangria. It’s really fresh and not overly sweet. Instead of the usual brandy, I used St. Germain, an elderflower liqueur. It gives a unique flavor and freshness to the drink. I will warn you – it’s a bit expensive (about $30-35 per bottle), but it’s worth every penny!

Also, mangoes are readily available in the supermarket these days and are so sweet and juicy. They make a great little garnish.

I’m really loving the fresh herbs in here too. The basil really adds to the depth of flavor. If you’re a fan of herby co*cktails you also need to check out my watermelon basil co*cktail, strawberry thyme martini, and strawberry basil martini.

  • Make sure to use fresh fruit that is in season for optimal flavor. Additionally, consider using a variety of fruits to add depth and complexity to your sangria.
  • When it comes to the wine, opt for a dry and crisp white like Pinot Grigio or Sauvignon Blanc. This will help balance out the sweetness from the fruit and any added sugar.
  • Another fun variation is to infuse your sangria with different spices or herbs, such as fresh mint leaves, or ginger root. This can add a whole new level of complexity to your drink, making it perfect for more sophisticated palettes.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I make this sangria ahead of time?

Absolutely! In fact, we recommend it. Sangria tastes best when it has time to sit and allow the flavors to meld together. Just be sure to keep it in the refrigerator until you’re ready to serve.

Can I use a different type of fruit?

Of course! One of the best things about sangria is that it’s so versatile. Feel free to use any fruit that you have on hand or that you think would go well with the flavors in this recipe. Some good options might include strawberries, raspberries, or peaches.

Can I use a different type of alcohol?

Yes, you can definitely experiment with different types of alcohol. White wine is the traditional choice for sangria, but you could also try using rosé or even red wine. You can also use brandy or rum in place of the St. Germain.

Can I make this recipe non-alcoholic?

Totally! To make a non-alcoholic version of this recipe, simply omit the wine and replace it with sparkling grape juice and additional pineapple juice.

This might easily become my favorite drink for those late-summer evenings on the porch. It also gives me an excuse to use up some of my basil that is growing like a weed.
