Poppy Playtime Chapter 4 release date speculation

There’s no Poppy Playtime Chapter release date just yet, but considering Deep Sleep released on January 30, 2024, it feels safe to say that we have a long wait until we get a Chapter 4 release window, never mind a solid date. However, we can make an educated guess. A Fly in Web came out on May 5, 2022, meaning there was a 20-month gap between that and the most recent chapter.

With that in mind, it’s reasonable to assume that Chapter 4 is likely to arrive in the second half of 2025 at the earliest, with a possible pushback to 2026 (Deep Sleep was originally scheduled for a 2023 release, after all). Plus, development cycles aside, CatNap is yet to join Mommy Long Legs and Huggy Wuggy on mobile, so we imagine that the team at Mob Entertainment is working on a mobile port for the most recent chapter.

Plus, we can’t forget that Mob Entertainment released A Tight Squeeze on PlayStation and Nintendo Switch in December 2023, so it’s possible that console ports of Fly in a Web and Deep Sleep are in the works, too, which could potentially delay the release of the next installment.

For even further context on the development time with Poppy Playtime, Mob Entertainment confirmed in a response on Twitter (X) that development actually began for Chapter 3 in May 2023, which means it really only took eight months to create the game. So, the time frame for release does likely depend on other possible projects, like the ones mentioned above.

Is there a Poppy Playtime Chapter 4 trailer?

No, there isn’t a Poppy Playtime Chapter 4 trailer at the moment, and we can’t see that changing for some time, but when Mob is ready to give us a look at what’s next, you can be sure that the team will release numerous trailers full of hints and clues. Typically, Poppy Playtime trailers offer so much material that we were able to deduce some Poppy Playtime Chapter 3 theories from a single trailer. The fact that we even got a couple of things correct makes us quite proud.

Who is the villain of Poppy Playtime Chapter 4?

While Poppy Playtime’s Prototype is the most obvious choice for the Chapter 4 villain, we can’t help but think that maybe there’s at least one more toy that’s ready to mess with you. We have some theories on who the villain might be, and the one that we have the most faith in is recognizable to those who enjoy Project Playtime.

Boxy Boo

Poppy Playtime’s Boxy Boo is our main candidate to be the big bad in Poppy Playtime Chapter 4. We all know that the Prototype is the big bad of Poppy Playtime, but each chapter has its own villain, and so far, each one took part in The Hour of Joy. There’s but one toy we’re yet to see who also participated in the massacre: Boxy Boo.

Though our Poppy Playtime story guide goes into much more detail about it, The Hour of Joy was a massacre in 1995, ten years before you return to the factory. Various toys slaughtered the staff and children. In Poppy’s words, “the guilty and the innocent” were killed. At the conclusion of Deep Sleep, Poppy shows us a video – this clip shows The Hour of Joy taking place, switching between various places in the factory.

We get to see Huggy Wuggy slaughter people in the reception area, Mommy Long Legs let loose on the staff at the Game Station, Poppy Playtime’s Miss Delight chase a man into a room, and CatNap prowl through Playcare. But guess what? We also see Boxy Boo kill some staff members in a hallway, so we think it’s high time he makes the leap from Project Playtime.

As much as it pains us, we do have to acknowledge that Kissy Missy appears in The Hour of Joy, breaking free of her restraints and attacking the scientists attempting to keep her there. Honestly, it feels like she only harmed “the guilty.” Kissy Missy seems to actually be a kind soul. She’s trying to help Poppy (and you) right the wrongs at the factory. We’ll look at all possibilities, but with everything we know about her, and after the concluding events of Chapter 3, we can’t see Kissy Missy being a cold-blooded killer.

A new toy

Though we think Boxy Boo is a prime candidate to be the villain of the next chapter, there’s always the possibility that Mob will introduce us to yet another new toy instead. Of all the possible scenarios, this is our least favorite, though that’s not to say we don’t understand the choice of going in this direction, it’s more that we think Boxy Boo is an intriguing character who already scares up a storm in Project Playtime. Still, a new toy could be fun, Mob is yet to let us down with its toy designs.

As for the role that a new villainous toy could play, it’s hard to hazard a guess as we kind of peaked with CatNap worshiping the Prototype and killing heretics. The toy would need to have an evil streak, but every toy that took part in The Hour of Joy is accounted for thanks to the video Poppy shows us, so to us, it seems tricky to introduce a new evil toy in any meaningful way.

Still, we’ll keep our ears to the ground over the coming months, and at the first whiff of a new toy, we’ll be sure to let you know as we dive into the rabbit hole of possibilities.

Poppy Playtime Chapter 4’s story

We have no idea what the next installment has in store for us, but we think that there are some reasonable assumptions that we can make in regards to what happens after the Chapter 3 credits roll.

Kissy Missy

At the end of Chapter 3, Kissy Missy helps you and Poppy on your way to the next elevator, but you then hear Kissy screeching in what could be an altercation. We think it’s our pink-furred friend who’s screaming, and all we can do is hope that whatever goes after her is unsuccessful. We’re coming for you, Kissy. Hang in there.

This is perhaps what fully cements our belief that Kissy Missy is one of the few good guys in this hell hole. Truthfully, while it appears as though she’s in grave danger, we don’t think this is the end of Kissy Missy. If we had to guess, we’d say that Chapter 4 becomes a rescue mission during which you need to work closely with Poppy to save her friend.

Our minds immediately go to the Prototype as the one to attack Kissy Missy, but what if it’s Boxy Boo doing the bidding of Experiment 1006, just like CatNap did? Either way, the pink fluff ball is our pal, and we’re not leaving her behind.

The Prototype

We know that the big bad is collecting pieces from the other toys, and after what he did to CatNap, all bets are off. So, while we suspect Boxy Boo of being our enemy, that doesn’t necessarily mean he supports the Prototype. After all, Mommy Long Legs was terrified of him despite all the heinous things she did with Experiment 1006.

Though it’s unlikely that Poppy Playtime Chapter 4 (our money is on at least five chapters) is the last entry in the franchise, we suspect we’ll still learn plenty more about the Prototype. Chapter 3 is a real eye-opener, so we imagine Mob will keep the momentum going in terms of tidbits about Experiment 1006.

Ollie

We know precious little about Poppy Playtime’s Ollie, the kid who helps you through Playcare. Well, we’re assuming he’s a kid from the sound of his voice, but given all the toys killed the children ten years ago, we think there’s a lot more to him than Chapter 3 tells us. He’s clearly a longtime ally of Poppy, as he helps you after Poppy tells him about you.

He knows much about Playcare, and if we’re right about possibly going back up there to save Kissy Missy, Ollie might be on hand to help us once more. No matter what direction Poppy Playtime Chapter 4 goes in, we’re sure it involves Ollie in some way.

There are also a couple of pretty cool possibilities when it comes to Ollie; he might actually be a toy, perhaps Baby Long Legs, or maybe even the Prototype himself. Out of the two, we certainly lean more towards him being a toy, though we can’t deny how sinister it would be if Experiment 1006 had killed the real Ollie and used his voice.

Smiling Critters

Okay, so this one is very out there, but we are so fascinated by the Poppy Playtime Smiling Critters that we want to see more of them. Yes, we know that it’s highly likely that all of the Bigger Buddy variants are dead, likely long before we even arrived for most of them, but we can’t help but hold out hope. The lore surrounding these characters is so fascinating that we’d even settle for little more than a video documentary about them in Chapter 4 – anything, please, Mob Entertainment.

Again, we know that the chances are we’ll never see or hear of this bunch again, but we can dream.

And that concludes our suspicions for Poppy Playtime Chapter 4. Of course, we’ll add and change theories as we get more information. Who knows, another run or two of Deep Sleep might shine a light on things we previously overlooked.
