Prevent droids from replacing specialist and ruler pops. (2024)

Had massive unemployment on my planets as soon as I finished researching droids.

Its soo stupid and that droids automatically replace organic pops. The pops basically end up sitting around doing jack sh*t for the next 5 years. Pretty much threw my economy into the gutter

They should just give us back manual control of pop job assignments.

I fully support the devs wanting to improve automation as much as possible, but it's clear as day the AI will never be fully up to the task and that human intervention will always be needed at some point.

The current system is the worst of both worlds at the moment, the automatic assignments are a mess half the time, and players have to jump through hoops to fix them. Somehow they managed to make pop management harder and increased micromanagment.

Why? The robot does your job better than you, so the robot takes your job. You should've planned for the enormous societal upheaval caused by creating workers on the factory line.

Usually the issue is the robots aren't doing a better job, or are far better at doing another job.

Preparing more jobs for them. Social Welfare to mitigate the Unemployment hit. That one Harmony Tradition. The list goes on.

Not really. New jobs only matter if you can build them at the appropriate strata since synths will kick out your rulers and droids will kick out your specialists. Last I checked, you only get so many ruler positions ever and the specialists are tied to constructed buildings. I suppose you could deliberately under-run your entire empire so that when droid tech hits you have sufficient specialist positions, but that just means crippling your economy BEFORE the tech completes (by paying for building and locking all personnel out of the job position) as well as WHEN the tech completes and you lose a bunch of workers. Not to mention the amount of micro necessary -- every colony, every building to stop jobs and then every colony every building to restore jobs.

Harmony Tradition reduces the strata changing refusal to a mere 2.5 years for specialists so only 30 months of worker shortages.

Social welfare programs help stability/happiness, but don't help the workers become miners/farmers.

Actually, droids are better. They don't have the consumer goods upkeep the fleshy bois have.

Though I agree it's annoying.

This is true if you are adding droids to your population, but if they were already there as robots and have just upgraded there is no net benefit to CG. You just end up losing the benefit of the traits they had.

The weights are just bad I think. A droid with the power drill trait should not be trying to fill any job other than miners, unless there are no miner jobs left. Right now they will abandon miner jobs if there are specialist ones available as that tier is heavily weighted over workers.

I agree, a fix in vanilla is *much* needed.

I have been quite happy with the mod, "Job Manager," by NaK1119, which allows the restriction of species (& robots) to specfic job strata. With this mod, I started research droids again, because I could prevent my mining droids from suddenly taking specialist jobs. I know mods aren't ideal for flawed basic design in vanilla, but this mod may solve your problems for the time being. Cheers.

This problem wouldn't exist if there wasn't any time period to demote pops.

I had similar problems with slaves replacing my entertainers. I couldn't even resettle my unemployed specialists because they were essential to keeping up the building slots.

Thanks, you just saved my current campaign where all my mining droids suddenly got the urge to become enforcers (probably because my main species is "weak" and that lowers their rating for enforcer jobs).

Did you give your droids efficient processors? Because that makes them 5% better than all non robust organics in all foundry, artisan, and refinery jobs. If they dont have that trait, or other specialist oriented traits, they won't replace organic specialists, at least as far as I can discern from a quick look over the defines. I could be missing something, but efficient processors is likely the culprit if the robots are doing weird replacements, as its weight in those jobs is 2, which overpowers pretty much everything else. However, since so few traits give bonuses to those jobs, and they are so valuable, I will argue that behavior is reasonable in that case.

If I remember correctly there is a one year grace period where pops that get promoted to specialist can be immediately downgraded back to worker without penalty. Doing so is rather micro intensive, but it gets the job done until the mid-game where exchanging a few workers for specialists is generally more desirable.
