Faye's obituary

Faye Maud Adams aged 63, of Bulawayo, Zimbabwe was taken from us on Tuesday, 3 October, 2023 after a brief illness. Born on 20 March, 1960 in Harare, Zimbabwe to Maud Elizabeth Daniels and William Frederick Adams, she lived much of her life in Harare, Zimbabwe before moving to Bulawayo, Zimbabwe.

Those she has left behind are filled with so many happy memories of her. The most constant memory is the all-consuming joy she had in every day she lived. We remember her love of dancing, music, laughter and singing. Indeed Faye was dancing just a few short hours before she fell ill. She is surely dancing, singing and laughing among the angels right now.

Faye cherished the babies and the children in the family. She was so gentle, kind, adoring and nurturing with them and always interested in how they were doing. Faye held closely to her friends and family. She had the best hugs, made the best tea and never forgot a single person she loved.

She'd giggle when teased about her childhood crushes Tony and Mitchell and wonder how they were. She'd ask fondly about our long-term neighbors in Harare and all the people she cared for or who had taken care of her over the years. She'd ask about her old school Saint Catherine's in Harare and talk about her old friends at the school and the happy times she spent there.

There are so many wonderful things to remember about Faye. She had a ready and radiant smile. She had such fierce loyalty and would never reveal something told to her in confidence. Her spirit was pure and free, she spoke honestly and was an amazing judge of character. She touched everyone she met and if we are to take anything from her example, maybe it should be the fact that she lived in the moment, finding joy and meaning in every minute until she was taken from us.

Faye is survived by her siblings Patricia "Patty" Smith, Deborah "Debbie" Toshke, Brenda Hopkins, Gary Adams, stepbrother Rudolph Bonne, nieces and nephews Aubrey, Adelaide, Tenecia, Shernelle, Dehana, David, Meagan, Michelle "Mumpsie", Bradley, William, Jermaine "Dino", Frederick "Freddie", Gillan, Ryan, Kimberly, Sharon, Chantal and Davina. She is predeceased by her parents, mother Maud Elizabeth Daniels and father William Frederick Adams, her brothers Richard Adams, Raymond "Garther" Adams, Winston "Arness" Adams and stepbrother Mervin Bonne.

A service will be held in Bulawayo, Zimbabwe at Our Lady Lourdes Church in Kumalo at 9:30 am on Friday, 06 October, 2023. This will be followed by the burial at Umvutsha Cemetery. Please join the family for tea and eats in the Our Lady Lourdes Church Hall after the burial.

Here are some of the wonderful things friends and family remember about Faye:

When I was little she was always kind to share her colouring books and pencils with me when I would visit. That’s my best memory.

She was the most loving and beautiful, unassuming human being I ever had the pleasure of knowing. I loved her dearly and I am devastated!

For sure l can't believe that I will never see her again. My heart is very sore and she has left a big gap in my heart. When she was going to hospital she said to me "Thanks Thenjiwe for taking care of me, l love you". l didn't think she would never came back at home. Now in this house it is very quiet and my little son is always looking for her and calling her. This is painful.

My favourite memory of Faye is how she loved to sing and dance. Always ready to spontaneously express her joy. She constantly told me how grateful she was for everything I did. She was a living breathing embodiment of 'Giving someone their flowers on this side of heaven'. I will miss her terribly.

If we thought of words to describe you, we would say: You were genuine, you were patient, you loved unconditionally, you adored children, you were protective over everybody you cherished, you enjoyed making sure your cupboard was always neat and you loved a good cup of tea. We thank God for the 63 incredible years we were blessed with you and find comfort in knowing you are in a better place.

It was impossible for anybody that knew Faye, not to love her. We picture her happy smile, unique dance and how much she loved everything to do with paper and books. We remember her artistic side – knitting or crocheting something or simply any hobby involving art. She was always the social butterfly, never afraid to have a conversation, make new friends or listen to music on her radio.
