Submitting ACT or SAT scores is currently optional for all undergraduate programs at Tulane.

College admission tests like the SAT and ACT are standardized tests typically taken in your junior or senior year. Colleges use scores from these tests to help them make admission decisions.

Test scores are more reliable than high school grades, partly because of grade inflation in recent years. Without test scores, admissions officers sometimes have a hard time distinguishing between applicants who are likely to do well at elite colleges and those who are likely to struggle.

Tulane's acceptance rate is 11.5% because it is incredibly desirable as a unique blend of academic excellence and vibrant New Orleans culture.

The main college entrance exams are the ACT and the SAT. The CLT is a newer alternative that is accepted by a small number of colleges. Colleges and universities, especially highly selective schools, may also require SAT Subject Tests.

At The College Curators, we recommend that high school students in the class of 2024 still consider taking the ACT or SAT, but whether or not they submit their scores should depend on test availability and personal performance.

Standardized testing has been widely used by colleges as an input to admissions decisions in the United States since the 1950s. These tests offered a way for colleges to recognize and admit talented students who they might otherwise overlook because they do not come from traditional “feeder” high schools.

Around 90% of colleges in America still accept SAT scores. And it is still mandatory for some colleges (or equivalent to SAT). But again it all depends on the college, they might ask you or might be not. SAT or ACT is only a part of admission among other factors.

Is it harder to get into Tulane or Vanderbilt? ›

Which school is easier to get into? If you're looking at acceptance rate alone, then Vanderbilt University is more difficult to get into. However, each college is looking to fill its incoming class with a variety of students with different strengths, backgrounds, etc.

It is also estimated that the Tulane GPA requirements range between 3.5 and 3.96. Tulane University is a highly selective college. Therefore, applicants need extraordinary scores to get a seat in the school.

Tulane is one of the most highly selective universities in the country. Average SAT test scores and acceptance percentage place it in the Top 25 universities in the US.

This is a common misconception. Colleges don't have a preference between the SAT or ACT so it's important to know how to choose the test that's right for you. Both tests are widely accepted across U.S. colleges—including those that are test optional.

Both tests evaluate your skills in reading, writing, and math. However, the ACT goes a step further by offering an optional essay component that can highlight your writing skills to provide a more well-rounded assessment of your academic abilities.

The SAT is an entrance exam used by most colleges and universities to make admissions decisions. The SAT is a multiple-choice, computer-based test created and administered by the College Board.

Any test in which the same test is given in the same manner to all test takers, and graded in the same manner for everyone, is a standardized test. Standardized tests do not need to be high-stakes tests, time-limited tests, multiple-choice tests, academic tests, or tests given to large numbers of test takers.
