Long Sword: The long sword is a long and elegant weapon made for precise and quick strikes. While not as fast as its smaller counterparts, it is capable of inflicting more damage and also comes with a spirit gauge that fills as you hit monsters. Once the gauge is filled, you can unleash the spirit combo which is very powerful and less likely to bounce even on heavily armored monsters.
Great Sword: Another good beginner weapon, the great sword is an over-sized sword with slow attacks but great power. It slows you down considerably when drawn, but its charge attack is capable of inflicting the most damage in a single strike in the entire game. It is also capable of blocking and negates much more damage that the S&S.
Hammer:Hammers are large, heavy weapons which are capable of dealing vast amounts of damage in a single combo. They are large, but allow for movement speed similar to that of the long sword making it a good high damage alternative. However, hammers deal impact damage and as such, are not capable of cutting off a monster's tail, but can K.O. a monster if hit repeatedly on the head.
Hunting Horn: The Hunting Horn is very similar to the hammer. It deals the same type of damage and share combos with the hammer, but is generally weaker in terms of damage per strike. However, this is compensated by the hunting horn's Recital Ability which allows it to play songs which buff the user and his allies. This ability makes it excellent for group play.
Lance: Lances are long weapons that can strike from a distance and are accompanied by a shield. While they slow you down considerably, lances are also capable of dealing considerable damage and the shield will be able to effectively block most attacks. This type of weapon is great for a tank-like play style.
Gunlance: The gunlance is very similar to lances, but has the unique ability to fire explosive rounds at short range. This allows the gunlance to have added effects and also makes it easier to combo. The gunlance also has the powerful Wyvern's Fire ability which shoots off one powerful explosive round at nearby enemies. This is offset by a long cooldown and a significant decrease in sharpness.
Switch Axe: Switch axes are large axes that are also capable of transforming into swords on the fly. This makes it a very versatile weapon capable of functioning well in most situations. While in axe mode a hunter is capable of running at a speed similar to the long sword, and dealing moderate damage. When sword mode is activated, the special Phial activates and imbues the sword with different status inducing effects or buffs. The sword also slows you down considerably, but is capable of dealing tremendous damage and very quickly with the ability to combo seamlessly until the sword gauge runs out.
Bowgun: There are 2 types of bowguns, and while both are similar in being long-range type weapons, they're different in speed and power, making their play-style slightly different. [1]Light Bowguns are normally faster, especially when it comes to mobility and usually grants you faster ammo reloads or better recoils. Most, and only the Light Bowguns can use the special bowgun technique called "Rapid Fire", which allows the hunter to unload multiple quick shots using only 1 ammo. [2]Heavy Bowguns are stronger in damage compared to Light Bowguns, but hunters will lose the Light Bowgun's mobility. To make up for its slow movement, they can be equiped with a shield if necesary-- a feature that Light Bowgun's do not have. Heavy Bowguns have their own special technique called "Crouch Fire", where the hunter positions themselves to aim and just shoot without the need to reload.
Bow: Bows are also long-range type weapons. When armed, you're mobility is equivalent to Light Bowguns. Bows deal relatively weak (weaker) damage compared to bowguns, but depending on the type of bow you are using, the type of damage you can deal differ thanks to their unique charged range attacks. Most Bows come equiped with good elemental or status ailment weapons to make up for its low attack, making them a nice versatile long-range weapon.
Sword & Shield: An excellent beginner weapon and arguably one of the most balanced and versatile. It is a small sword accompanied by a shield that allows a hunter to block most attacks.
Great Swords are the heavy hitters, capable of dishing out the most damage possible. With their long range and high damage, these weapons are good for knocking down big foes or obliterating little ones. It's great for players who want to make their hits count.
Gobul is a fish monster that you will initially meet in Area 6 of the Flooded Forest. His most powerful underwater attack is the one you will need to worry about. He sucks you into his maw and inflicts severe enough damage that a single encounter with it can be fatal.
Hardest boss? Fatalis hands down. The only boss that pros struggled for hours and days to defeat and even to this day, still carts good hunters every now and then. Very unpredictable moves in the 3rd phase, insanely HUGE hitboxes that extends beyond your imagination, and a lot of one hit carts in his arsenal.
Arguably one of the most difficult foes to take down in the entire series, Extreme Behemoth (or 'Extremoth', as he's affectionately known by players) is an absolute titan that effortlessly ranks as Monster Hunter World's hardest monster.
Gobul's weak spots (in order from weakest to most resistance to cutting damage) are the lantern, stomach, face, back, tail, feet, spikes. A nice strategy is to fish gobul out using a frog (found in the flooded forest, area 2, by area 4 entrance) so you'll be able to get in a lot of hits while gobul is on land.
In order to unlock the Abyssal Lagiacrus, you must first make your way up to HR 8 and unlock the 3G star quests. Once you have those unlocked in the Port, you must grind on quests until you reach HR 70 as you will then have access to the Abyssal.
The Long Sword is one of the best weapons for beginners in Monster Hunter Generations Ultimate. It's pretty quick, and is all about chaining together combos. You can move quickly while holding the Long Sword, so it's easy to get behind a monster.
A good jack of all trade weapons that' good for new player is the Sword and Shield. It's an easy to pick up weapon but still has a lot to master, can somewhat defend with the shield if you're in a pinch, great mobility, and pretty decent offensive option.
While MHGU can be quite challenging at times and offer a vast cast of monsters to face-off against, some of the monsters you include are pretty pathetic.
