  • lemon juice: freshly squeezed lemon juice has amazing benefits of vitamin c, antioxidants, alkalizing properties, and aids in digestion.
  • fresh turmeric root: Curcumin, an active compound in turmeric, has excellent anti-inflammatory benefits relating to joint pain and other issues.
  • fresh ginger root: Ginger contains antioxidant properties and anti-inflammatory properties, boosts immunity, and reduces infection risk, improves digestion, heart health, and regulates blood sugar levels.
  • pineapple chunks: While this adds some nice sweetness to our shots, pineapple is full of health benefits, ranging from being a nutrient dense fruit to anti-inflammatory properties, antioxidants, and immune system support.
  • black pepper: A dash of black pepper probably sounds crazy, but don’t skip this! Black pepper helps your body absorb turmeric.

  • coconut oil: Coconut oil has a ton of health benefits on its own, but in this wellness shot it also helps our bodies absorb the turmeric.

  • If you have a juicer, simply combine all of the ingredients into the juicer and divide the juice into 6 shots! No blender or sieve is needed.
  • The pineapple juice gives a nice palatable sweetness to the shot. If you need additional sweetness, use more pineapple juice or a bit of raw honey.

For a longer shelf life, use a larger silicone ice cube tray to freeze a larger batch. Defrost one of the frozen cubes overnight in the refrigerator to enjoy as a juice shot in the morning.

Recipe FAQs

How often should you take wellness shots?

Depending on the season, your immune system, and susceptibility to colds/illness, a few times a week is a great place to start. Some people enjoy taking them every day, while some enjoy every other day or less frequently. It’s recommended to always consult your healthcare practitioner for your specific needs.

Why do you add coconut oil and black pepper to wellness shots?

Both of these ingredients help the body absorb the turmeric.

Can you use powdered turmeric and ginger instead of fresh?

Unfortunately I have not tried it with powdered and wouldn’t know the amounts. They also don’t provide the same nutrient dense benefits that turmeric and ginger root do. I am sorry!

I love this idea as I sometimes buy these at Aldi! Looking at the photos, it appears the ginger and turmeric are not peeled. Do you not need to peel them?! Thanks for all your great recipes; I’m a huge fan, Mary!
