Copycat Red Lobster Cheddar Bay Biscuits - wyldflour (2024)

Copycat red lobster cheddar bay biscuits. Yessssssss.

I’m not gonna lie. I could be perfectly happy ordering clam chowder and a million cheddar bay biscuits at red lobster and skipping the whole lobster thing. Keep those baskets of heaven coming, good sir. Crumbly, buttery, moist biscuits with garlic and a lightly salty taste. From the first moment I tasted them, I knew I needed a copycat recipe. Le sigh . . .

These copycat red lobster cheddar bay biscuits can be made from scratch (my preference) or with bisquick mix. I’ve included both recipes below. Now, I know that cheddar“bay” biscuits certainlyimplies old bay seasoning. But from my sleuthing around the ol’ interwebs, many red lobster employees have reported that red lobster does not, in fact, use old bay seasoning in its cheddar bay biscuits. Accordingly, this copycat recipe relies only on garlic and parsley and a pinch of salt.

Now grab yourself some clam chowder and tuck in!

Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 Tablespoon baking powder
  • 3/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/3 cup vegetable shortening
  • For Bisquick variation, see notes
  • 2 Tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 3/4 cup buttermilk
  • 3/4 cup shredded sharp cheddar cheese
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried parsley
  • Extra melted butter, garlic powder, salt, and parsley for topping.

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 450 degrees Fahrenheit.
  2. Pulse flour, baking powder, salt, and vegetable shortening in a food processor until the consistency of cornmeal. (You're essentially making homemade bisquick.)
  3. Pulse in butter until butter is pea-sized. (Do not overpulse.) Dump mixture into medium-sized mixing bowl.
  4. Use a fork to stir in cheddar cheese, garlic powder, and parsley.
  5. Pour in buttermilk and lightly stir with fork until milk is absorbed and mixture is starting to hold together. Do not over mix. The mixture will still be crumbly.
  6. Pull / gather enough dough to press into a biscuit form. Do not squeeze tightly together--press together just enough that it holds together. Place on a parchment paper-covered baking sheet. Repeat to create 9 biscuits.
  7. Bake biscuits for 11-14 minutes until they hold their shape when you tap lightly on them and they are starting to brown on top.
  8. Remove biscuits from oven and brush each biscuit lightly with melted butter. Sprinkle each biscuit with a tiny pinch of garlic powder, salt, and parsley. Allow biscuits to cool and store wrapped in a towel on the counter-top.

Notes

If you would prefer to use Bisquick mix, replace the flour, baking powder, and shortening with 2 1/2 cups bisquik mix.

omg. Everytime I go to red lobster I swear Terry and his dad just only eat the biscuits haha We get free refills of them here so we go through like 4 baskets of it - minimum. I totally have to pass this on to Terry to make. He usually cheats and uses the box biscuit mixes and trust me I give him hell for it but now he has no excuse! :)

Hahaha. We've used many a boxed biscuit mix in our day! But I crave them so often and I usually have the ingredients on hand more often than I have a pop-open can of biscuit dough. So I've been feeding my cravings with these . . . already want some more!

Yes! I just happen to have everything I need to make these immediately! I'm with you, as I'm sure about 99% of the population is, that the biscuits may be the BEST thing about Red Lobster. And your photos are beautiful! Pinning for later!

Man, I'm not a red lobster fan but these biscuits were my only reason to visit. "Were" being the operative word. Now I don't have to go and I can make them at home! Thank you!

Don't have Red Lobster where I live but these look the absolutely fantastic. I can see how they would be great with chowder but I also think they would be great with anything with a cajun cream or just buttered and devoured or just devoured!

I'm with you - I could skip everything else and just eat these biscuits. I'm a little embarrassed at how many I can devour in one sitting. With your recipe, I can do so in the privacy of my own home now, haha. Looks delicious!

Hahaha. Right there with you. The "at home" part makes it even more dangerous . . .
