The authors of the study undertook an important task to indicate the development of technology for the needs of everyday life. Deliberating on the meaning and importance of the use of technology in education, science, and culture, they were guided by reason, behind which are curiosity and research concerns. The collection of a dozen of substantive texts, prepared by many kinds of authors, is intended to lead to discussion on the relations between culture, education and technologies. The first part covers issues related to the technical environment and culture, and the second part covers education from the perspective of digital reality. It is worth noting that both present approach theoretical and empirical, considering analysis, methodology and practical solutions for education in contemporary technological culture. This study is not a closed part, but an announcement of the texts that are being prepared for the next volumes.

Thesis on Internet usage in Sec schools in Kenya.pdf

Martin Ndungu

Internet use in Kenya rose by 65 % to 14.3 million in the third quarter of 2011. The Communication Commission of Kenya (CCK, 2011) statistical report, indicate that there has been an increase in the number of people connecting to Internet over the last 2 years. It further indicates that Internet usage has continued to rise with the mobile handset being the most popular medium of access. This could be attributed to intense promotions especially the use of social sites such as the face book and twitter and consequently their popularity among the youth. A comparative analysis on Internet access on adolescent students in Kenya and Japan was done. This survey therefore aims to investigate the Internet usage by children aged between 13-17 years in Urban and per-urban secondary schools in Kenya and draw comparisons with Urban schools in Japan . The study also tries to determine the relationship between the level of Internet usage at a secondary school level in relation to their social and economic status. The study will provide useful information to the teachers, education stakeholders and researchers on education technology that will help in understanding the emerging issues in Kenya as a result of growth in technology. Key words: Effect, Internet, secondary schools, 13-17 years, Kenya.
