Fire Cider — Sage Naturopathic Health (1)

Fire Cider is one of my favorite daily remedies to help boost my immune system and keep winter illness away. Fire Cider is anti-viral, anti-bacterial, and anti-fungal, and it’s a great decongestant. Fire Cider also supports digestion and is anti-inflammatory. You can buy Fire Cider already made, but it’s easy and fun to make yourself.

Ingredients:

  • Garlic - anti-microbial, immune modulating
  • Onion - anti-microbial, immune modulating
  • Horseradish - anti-microbial, immune modulating, decongestant
  • Tumeric - anti-inflammatory
  • Ginger - anti-viral, anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, digestive stimulent, decongestant
  • Cayenne/Hot Peppers - circulatory stimulant, decongestant
  • Rosemary - anti-microbial, circulatory stimulent
  • Thyme - anti-microbial
  • Citrus Fruits - antioxidant, immune boosting
  • Apple Cider Vinegar - supports digestion

How much to use of each ingredient is up to you. As a general guideline I use:

  • 1 bulb of garlic chopped
  • 1 large onion chopped
  • 1/4 cup freshly grated horseradish
  • 1/8 cup freshly grated turmeric
  • 1/8 cup freshly grated ginger
  • 1 cayenne pepper chopped
  • 2 Tbs fresh rosemary chopped
  • 2 Tbs fresh thyme
  • 1-2 pieces of citrus sliced

Directions:

  1. Add all ingredients except apple cider vinegar to a clean 32 oz glass jar.
  2. Add apple cider vinegar to cover ingredients and fill the jar.
  3. Store in a cool dark place for 4 weeks, shaking daily.
  4. At the end of the month pour the vinegar into a clean jar, filtering out the other ingredients with a strainer or cheese cloth.
  5. Add local honey if desired and stir until dissolved.
  6. Store in the refrigerator.

Dose:

1 Tablespoon daily diluted in water
