Step 1

Get evaluated

You should schedule a dental checkup and a cleaning before you begin a whitening treatment to make sure your teeth and gums are in top health and to avoid unnecessary risks.

If you’re a good candidate for whitening, our Zoom techs will make a mold of your teeth and use it to create customized trays.

Step 2

Wear Whitening Trays

You'll be given custom made trays, along with a special bleach solution, to take home. With each application, your teeth will grow whiter and whiter. The whitening trays provided by our zoom tech are different from those you can buy over-the-counter. These trays are custom-fitted to your mouth and less likely to expose your gums to the whitening agent, they can be used with a stronger whitening agent than over-the-counter kits. Just wear your trays for 15 to 30 minutes twice daily, depending on the formula our Zoom Tech recommends. If you miss a day, don't worry. You can start and stop your whitening routine to accommodate your busy schedule.

Are whitening trays uncomfortable?

The custom tray Philips Zoom DayWhite or NightWhite, are made to fit the contours of your teeth. That means you get most precise tray to wrap around your gums and teeth for the most effective bleaching treatment.

Can I do both whitening treatments?

If you are prone to sensitivity or do not feel comfortable sitting with your mouth open for two hours during an in-office whitening treatment, we may recommend take-home trays instead.

Will I notice immediate results?

Your teeth should appear up to 8 shades whiter in the following weeks. However, these results are not permanent, so staying consistent with your at home treatment will keep your smile white and bright.

What if I'm not consistent with my treatment?

Philips Zoom DayWhite or NightWhite lets you whiten your teeth when it's most convenient for you. Just wear your trays for 15 to 30minutes twice daily, depending on the formula our Zoom Tech recommends. If you miss a day, don't worry. You can start and stop your whitening routine to accommodate your busy schedule.

How long will the treatment last?

If you follow the tips given by our zoom tech, your smile should remain white and bright for as long as stay consistent with your at home treatment. When your teeth begin to yellow or develop stains again, you can schedule another whitening appointment with our cosmetic dentist.

Is this whitening treatment healthy?

Philips Zoom DayWhite and NiteWhite is administered by a dental professional, so you know it's the best, healthiest option for your teeth. It had been proven safe and effective on teeth and gums. The bleaching components are backed by studies that have shown it is safe and effective for your teeth and gums. They are a take-home whitener with the power of three:creating a lustrous smile, making teeth smoother and shinier, managing sensitivity and proactively making the enamel stronger. That means it's making your smile healthier as it whitens by improving your enamel, which will be smoother and more lustrous by the time you finish treatment.

Is it safe for people with extreme sensitivity?

Unlike some other whitening systems, Philips DayWhite and NiteWhite are customized to eliminate sensitivity to maximize your comfort. You can be sure that your results will be consistent and safe on any fillings or restorations you might have as well.

Is there side effects to this treatment?

Serious side effects after whitening procedures are very rare. If this happens to you, avoid hot or cold beverages, and use a sensitivity toothpaste until the problem clears up. You should be back to normal within a few weeks.

  • Some patients experience some jaw discomfort after holding their mouths open for impressions
  • After the treatment you may experience slight sensitivity to hot or cold foods if your teeth are usually sensitive to foods or brushing

What should I expect to do after the treatment?

You'll need to take appropriate measures to keep your teeth white and bright for as long as possible after your professional whitening process.

  • Avoid dark-colored beverages like coffee, red wine, and dark beer.
  • When you do drink dark-colored beverages, sip them through a straw to minimize contact with your front teeth.
  • Brush and floss thoroughly every day.
  • Quit smoking.
  • Have your teeth professionally cleaned by a dental hygienist every six months.

Am I a good candidate for whitening?

If you have any of the following conditions, our dentist may recommend against a whitening procedure—or that you wait a few months to pursue treatment.

  • Sensitivity

Teeth whitening can make your teeth a bit sensitive to heat, cold, and pressure in the weeks following treatment. Most patients find this side effect easy to manage, but if your teeth are already sensitive, the whitening procedure might result in more serious sensitivity that makes eating, drinking, and brushing your teeth uncomfortable. We recommend using sensitivity toothpaste or undergoing fluoride treatments to ease your sensitivity before pursuing whitening treatments a few months down the road.

  • Gum Disease

Gum disease can cause pockets to form between your teeth and gums. If the chemicals in your whitening treatment work their way into the pockets, this can cause pain and sensitivity. We can work with you to help heal your gum disease, making teeth whitening a safer choice. Gum disease treatments may include deep cleaning, antibiotic rinses, and surgery to reduce the size of pockets.

  • Tooth Decay

If you have any cavities, it is not safe to apply whitening chemicals to your teeth. Thankfully, having cavities is filled is a quick and easy process, and once they are filled, your dentist should approve you as a candidate for teeth whitening.

  • Restorations

If you have extensive dental restorations, such as crowns or bonding, we recommend against having your teeth professionally whitened. While the whitening treatments will not damage the crowns or bonding material, it will not change its color, either. If you have your teeth whitened, the crowns and bonding may become obvious in your mouth as they will be darker than your teeth.

The effects of teeth whitening on pregnancy and on lactating women have not been well evaluated, so we recommend that pregnant or nursing women wait until they are no longer pregnant or nursing to have their teeth whitened.
