It’s gameshow season here in South East Asia!I was recently at Thailand Game Show for HoYo Fest, where the show announced that 180,000 people attended the event. Not to be outdone, Gamescom Asia in Singapore also announced that it had 34,000 attend the event, setting a new record for gaming events in Singapore. In addition to that, we also recently had IGDX (Indonesia) and Level Up KL (Malaysia).South East Asia is often considered a minor region by most publishers and developers, and most often prefer to spend in regions like Japan and East Asia. However, according to Niko Partners, the region (Primarily Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam) is set to bring in more than $5.8 billion in revenue in 2023. 🏟 Six Major Paris 2018 was my first big foreign LAN. Earlier that year, Ubisoft had expressed desire to support Rainbow Six Siege for another 10 years. That seemed ambitious, and so did François-Xavier Deniele when he told me that he dreams of seeing Tachanka as a must-pick operator in 2020.The latter didn't really happen, but R6 Siege has just finished Year 8 on a massive esports upswing. The Six Invitational 2024 peaked at over 500,000 viewers thanks to a mix of first-party and co-broadcaster viewership. It was Jynxzi's second year of covering SI, and it's impressive to see his broadcast grow from 13.7K to 202.5K Peak Viewers year-over-year. Truly a breakthrough streamer for both Twitch and Jynxzi's favourite game.Back in 2018, the live services landscape looked so different. It was a time before the GaaS gold fever that made dozens of titles and companies perish. R6 Siege was released before that and keeps thriving in the aftermath. I am starting to think we may actually see a Tachanka meta by 2030 too…
